| Interwetten Sportwetten GmbH was established in September 1990 by Wolfgang Fabian in Wien (Vienna), Austria. The operation started as a telephone betting service for soccer and ice hockey bets for the German-speaking market. 7 years later in August 1997, Interwetten.com was launched as a global brand for sports betting on the Internet. In the summer of 2000 Interwetten Sportwetten GmbH (Ltd.) became Interwetten AG (plc). The operational side of the betting was transferred to the 100% subsidiary Interwetten Cyprus Ltd. to ensure international competitiveness.
